Step into Your New Role

 

The East Division is looking for a Civil Practice Leader.  The right candidate can work from any Kleinfelder office in the eastern time zone and/or remotely.

The successful candidate will be an experienced Civil Project, Program, or Department Manager familiar with planning and feasibility studies, computer models, calculations, plans, technical specifications, and contract documents to enable commercial, industrial, energy and/or utility clients to construct their infrastructure needs.  The Civil Practice Lead will work with Kleinfelder’s collaborative Design Community of Practice and technical staff to create synergy across the east within multiple disciplines.  This position provides a great career-growth opportunity for an entrepreneurially minded and energetic person who can effectively collaborate with leadership, managers, technical staff, and clients.

 

Practice Leader Roles:

  • Foster a strong team of highly motivated Practice professionals across the Division that can deliver on the most challenging projects to increase staff retention and attract talent from other companies.
  • Regularly work with the Area Water department/practice/group Leads, CAMs, and other Divisional Practice Leads to support business growth though active participation in internal & external client facing sales calls/meetings and proposal efforts.
  • Steward and drive Practice growth into new geographies within the Division that align with Division, Area, and Market objectives and strategy.
  • Hold Area Practice leaders and sr. technical staff accountable for delivering high-quality work to help organically grow the business and deliver strong margins to support AMs.
  • Deliver "One Division" solutions (not separate Areas or Markets) by openly and honestly communicating on a regular basis with AMs, MLs, CAMs, and KTN about challenges and opportunities you are seeing in your Practice and across the Division/company/industry.
  • Represent the East Division in KTN leadership and/or CoP roles while working collaboratively with the National Technical Director to advance KTN initiatives & best practices with the goal of Kleinfelder being known as "one of the best places to work" and "one of the best companies to hire/partner with".

  

Practice Leader Responsibilities:

Business Development (35% of non-billable effort)

  • Engage and proactively support CAMs and Area/Market Leads in winning more work (and more interesting/challenging work) for the Practice and the Division, through cross selling services to existing clients not yet being serviced by the Practice, and by attending, participating, or leading internal/external client BD meetings.
  • Maintain an up-to-date list of Practice staff that can participate in proposal efforts and/or have their resume included in RFQs/SOQs/RFPs (e.g., strongest/most experienced staff).
  • Proactively identify needs/gaps and advocate that AMs hire Practice staff to be part of pursuit teams to win identified opportunities and execute projects throughout the Division.
  • Create and/or update crisp, clear, concise, and informative marketing materials (e.g., front-back or trifold “leave behinds”) to educate PMs/CAMs and inform clients of Kleinfelder’s Practice capabilities including:
  • Generic materials (all markets and geographies)
  • Market- or Client-specific materials (e.g., Power, Facility)

Quality & Delivery (35% of non-billable effort)

  • Hold biweekly resource calls with key Practice leaders in each Area/Office in the Division to steward resource sharing/leveraging across the Division.
  • Conduct ITRs, QRs, MSDs, etc., focusing on the highest risk projects, to ensure:
  • The appropriate technical resources are applied to our projects, including balancing staff leverage and staff development with the use of the appropriate subject matter experts and senior technical resources,
  • The Practice is utilizing the appropriate technical solutions based on project risk and exposure to Kleinfelder and our clients, and
  • Kleinfelder, Client, and Industry accepted Standard of Care quality standards are met.
  • Work with KTN and the CoPs applicable to the Practice to develop, update, and maintain processes and procedures, standards, and specifications, etc. applicable to the Practice.
  • Lead or actively participate in high-impact technical quality/delivery Loss Investigations within the Practice and ensure lessons learned are disseminated across the Division to Practice Team Members

Staff Development (20% of non-billable effort)

  • Identify and foster delivery of necessary training (both internal and external) to ensure Practice staff across the Division consistently employ policies, procedures, and methods to plan and execute safe, compliant, high-quality work.
  • Where applicable, encourage practitioners to obtain professional licensures and monitor KNET to ensure appropriate professional licensures are current and available to support growth strategies
  • Identify and develop next-level Practice leadership and/or recruit Key staff for High-profile projects.

 

Reputation (5% of non-billable effort)

  • Lead or have a major role in one or more external Practice related committees or professional organizations and present, at least annually, at a regional or national technical conference to:
  • Increase Kleinfelder's reputation in the markets and communities, states, regions we serve to solidify our position as "thought leaders" in the industry.
  • Recruit staff and new clients
  • Encourage and steward development of white papers and presentations at conferences by Practice leaders and sr. technical staff to increase brand awareness.
  • Participate in industry standards committees to remain on cutting edge of technology and standards.

Operations (5% of non-billable effort)

  • Assist in the recruiting and retention of exceptional, diverse talent within the East.
  • Identify actionable client, practice, or market demands/needs for new or increased Practice offerings/services including innovative or emerging needs/technologies.
  • Connect and collaborate with Practice leads in the other Divisions via KTN and relevant CoPs to ensure best practices, resource sharing, and strategies are connected.

 

Note: The % non-billable effort that accompanies each of the above Practice Responsibilities (e.g., Business Development) are expected levels of effort, while the bullets are suggested actions to meet Practice Goals. Practice Leads are encouraged to revise the level of effort (%) and actions, as necessary, to meet or exceed their Goals.
