Step into Your New Role
We are seeking a Water/Wastewater Intern with 0 years of experience for our San Diego office. This position may require field work in the San Diego region.
Kleinfelder is seeking a motivated student interested in a paid cooperative education opportunity for three (3) months in the fall of 2024 from September to November. This position will provide a challenging and rewarding work opportunity, offering exposure to a diverse range of engineering projects alongside a team focused on a learning culture. There is the potential for full-time employment in the future.
Under the direction of experienced engineers, scientists and planners, the candidate will perform a variety of engineering support assignments for water resources projects. Assignments may include:
- Supporting field inspections and data collection related to water distribution systems
- Drafting in AutoCAD/Civil 3D
- Performing engineering calculations
- Supporting the preparation of engineering reports and construction documents
- Researching and preparing permit applications
The candidate will gain exposure to Drinking Water, Wastewater, Stormwater, and site design projects, and may take part in site visits to observe existing facilities and projects under construction.
Candidate should be enrolled and completed at least two years in an accredited civil or environmental engineering program working towards completing a Bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, or water resources related engineering.
Candidate should have a demonstrated desire to develop a career in water/wastewater engineering and be able to show relevant coursework or experience, including hydraulics, hydrology, and basic engineering fundamentals. Candidate must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, self-motivated, flexible, able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and have availability to work a minimum of 16 hours per week (weekend work and outside of business hours work is acceptable). Experience using AutoCAD/Civil 3D is a plus. Kleinfelder will work around your exam schedules and coursework during the duration of your internship with us.
A successful candidate must be able to follow proper procedures, perform accurate computations, and maintain cordial relationships with coworkers, clients, contractors, etc. Additionally, the candidate must be capable of clear and concise verbal and written communication, have the ability to operate with moderate to minimal supervision and may be called upon to perform various tasks at the discretion of the supervisor such as field investigations or assistance in construction oversight.

The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the California Pay Transparency Law. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience. Salary range: $57,500- $79,448.
