Kleinfelder is seeking a dynamic, well-organized, and detailed-oriented Senior Project Controls professional to join our Northern California team.

 

As a Project Controls Specialist within our organization, your role encompasses a diverse set of responsibilities critical to our financial management and overall success.

 

This person will be a part of a growing team within an expanding company supporting projects that help the public and are happening in your community.   The Kleinfelder Project Controls Team continues to grow and support the Northern California operations. When you join our team, you will network with other Project Controls employees across the Bay Area and Central Valley Area offices (to include, but not limited to, Oakland, San Francisco, Sacramento, Stockton, San Jose) as well as nationwide through the community Practice Group.

The Senior Project Controls Specialist performs tasks in support of project budget, schedule, and reporting activities.  This position assists Kleinfelder's project managers and program managers with the development and organization of project data such as fee estimates, earned value, status reports, cost reports, backlog projections and resource needs.  The Senior Project Controls Specialist works under general supervision from the Project Controls Manager within specific guidelines and protocols on routine and semi‐routine assignments. 

 

Duties of the Senior Project Controls Specialist may include:

 

Monthly Reporting for Projects:

  • Comparing project budgets to actual expenditures.
  • Identifying work performed but out of scope for change management.
  • Calculating the percentage of completion for accounting purposes.
  • Generating monthly project billings.
  • Tracking project expenses and gathering necessary backup documentation.
  • Preparing related financial reports.

Project Budget Support:

  • Modeling prospective projects, including forecasting sources and uses of funds. This includes EAC/ETC and earned value methodologies.
  • Collaborating with project managers to compile detailed project budgets.
  • Assisting in maintaining accurate budget records.

Special Projects and Process Improvement:

  • Undertaking special projects aimed at enhancing financial processes and efficiency.
  • Identifying opportunities to streamline processes.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Working closely with various departments and project managers.
  • Maintaining excellent communication and collaboration.
  • Acting as a liaison between finance and other teams.

Ownership and Issue Resolution:

  • Taking ownership of tasks and responsibilities.
  • Ensuring the timely delivery of accurate financial data and reports.
  • Proactively identifying and communicating financial issues to the team.

Leadership and Insight:

  • Demonstrating strong leadership abilities.
  • Providing insightful contributions to financial discussions.
  • Applying a strategic mindset to see the bigger financial picture and offer valuable insights.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of training courses and mentoring of Project Controls personnel

 

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Associate degree in Finance, Business, Project Management or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Self-motivated, minimal supervision, detail-oriented professional
  • Minimum 8+ years of engineering or construction cost control and/or project controls experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated team collaboration, communication, organization, and self-prioritization skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).

Preferred Skills: 

  • CAPM or PMP and/or experience with MS Project
  • Advanced skills in Excel and advanced spreadsheet functions
  • Skills in PowerBI dashboards usage and development

Must be:

  • Dependable and keep required work schedules.
  • Able to work effectively in a team environment and consistently maintain a professional and respectful demeanor/attitude with direct reports, co-workers, clients, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
  • A problem solver with the ability to find solutions.
  • Work as part of a team and support the team.
  • Detail- and quality-orientated with the ability to identify and correct errors.

Benefits: Kleinfelder offers an excellent compensation and benefits package, including: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k) plan, and paid holidays. The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the California Pay Transparency Law.  Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience. Salary range: $75,850 -$126,585.
