Doucet, a Kleinfelder Company is looking for a skilled and experienced Construction Manager / Constructability Reviewer for civil construction projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction of civil infrastructure and have solid foundational knowledge of means and methods for civil construction. This candidate will be adept at managing project plan reviews and submittals and have experience coordinating with contractors, engineers, and inspectors. A strong ability to problem solve is key for this position.
As a Construction Manager / Constructability Reviewer, you will ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to industry standards with minimal change orders during construction.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
• Examines civil engineering plans for site development and subdivisions infrastructure for compliance with applicable design standards and infrastructure construction codes. Types of projects range from commercial, industrial, and multifamily site plans to public infrastructure plans for streets, drainage, and utilities.
• Assists the design engineer with reviewing contractor submittals for compliance with project specifications and applicable codes.
• Attends design review meetings to assist Engineers with City, County and TxDOT specific code requirements and development related inquiries and issues with constructability.
• Reviews correspondence, reports, specifications, bid documents, and other official documents.
• Participates in review of proposed infrastructure planning and development of designs and review of same for public works or developer projects.
• Interprets municipal codes and regulations of plans submitted by design engineer’s or design team and/or other associated parties; and assists, where possible, with suggestions and recommendations on possible alteration of construction plans to meet applicable infrastructure-related codes, policies, and standards.
• Facilitate resolution of issues during construction with inspectors.
• Performs technical duties independently.
• Performs limited reviews of Plats.
• Prepares correspondence and work status reports.
Key Responsibilities:
• Plan Review & Interpretation: Read and interpret detailed civil construction plans, drawings, and specifications to ensure accurate project execution and adherence to engineering requirements. Propose changes as appropriate.
• Team Coordination: Review completed civil plans for conformance. Oversee the conformance of the work of contractors and multiple trades, ensuring tasks are completed in conformance with project Plans and standards.
• Material: Review submittals of contractor submitted construction materials specific to the civil projects (e.g., concrete, aggregates, steel, etc.).
• Provide training opportunities for the EIT’s and designers with lunch and learns and trips to the field.
Qualifications:
• Proven experience in civil construction (roads, bridges, utilities, infrastructure, etc.)
• Strong understanding of civil engineering principles, construction plans, and relevant industry standards
• Familiarity with local regulations and safety codes related to civil construction projects.
• Ten (10) years of experience administering public works construction contracts, including projects with City, County and TxDOT, Federal and FTA funding.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of civil and construction engineering, including methods, materials, equipment, and techniques used in civil engineering, construction, alternative methods of construction, and inspection.
• Ability to develop, read, and interpret plans, specs, construction schedules, contracts, and other construction documents to ensure contract compliance.
• Construction experience with major and minor utility construction, roadway installations from rural installations to highways including new and/or existing bridges, passenger light rail, and working on large, complex projects in an urban environment.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with project Design team, client, and contractors.
• Strong organizational, time management, and customer service skills.
• Strong proficiency in using project management software (e.g., Procore, Microsoft Project, or similar), MS Word, MS Excel, SharePoint, and Adobe Professional.
• OSHA 30 (Preferred).
• First Aid, CPR, AED (Preferred).
• Valid Driver's License.
