Kleinfelder's San Francisco office is seeking an experienced Field Biologist to provide a variety of services to support a fast-paced program with short duration projects. The responsibilities will include oversight and coordination of fieldwork for multiple projects per week, preparing reports and providing planning support for projects. In addition, the position includes providing fieldwork services including surveys and monitoring for special status species in California and nesting birds and conducting desktop reviews and analysis of potential project impacts to special status species. The work is located throughout the greater San Francisco Region. The individual will provide planning and coordination support for projects, conduct field surveys, monitoring, and prepare and review technical reports. Wetlands and waters permitting experience is also desirable. The individual(s) will largely work remotely and in the field, but will report to the nearest office as needed, and direct supervisor is in San Francisco, California. 

 

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide environmental regulatory compliance for our clients by coordinating field surveys for protected species and other sensitive resources, compliance monitoring for work crews, and submitting written logs and reports of compliance activities.
  • Provide survey and monitor status updates both internally and to the client.
  • Conduct detailed desktop environmental due diligence reviews to determine agency regulatory authority, potential land involvement and/or license requirements. Prepare the corresponding Biological Constraints Reports and assist with Quality Control.
  • Conduct occasional sensitive resource surveys as needed.
  • Ensure fieldwork plans conform to client standards and expectations, comply with all applicable permits, licenses, and right-of-way or easement conditions.
  • Support quality control of project information and preparation of status reports using of Salesforce Dashboards and Reports.
  • Work includes tracking multiple incoming assignments, coordinating specialist reports, and packaging projects for on-schedule deliveries.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Environmental Planning/Science or a related field
  • 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Strong skills in verbal communication of technical issues
  • Strong technical writing and editing skills
  • Prior experience in project and/or program management 
  • Prior experience in natural resource consulting is desirable

Preferred Skills/Experience: 

  • Comfortable working in physically challenging outdoor environments in all types of weather
  • Traveling in rural areas to a project which may require occasional overnight stays
  • Knowledge of special-status wildlife and/or plant species 
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and review processes for special status species and wetlands and waters 
  • Strong technical and academic background in an applied biological science
  • Effective problem-solving ability
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Experience with MS Office, IPADS, Google Earth, and databases (Salesforce)
  • The ability to work both independently and with a team
  • Must have a satisfactory driving record and complete a background check
  • Must have a CA driver's license

The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the California Pay Transparency Law.  Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience. Salary range: $36.47 - $60.86 hourly
