Kleinfelder is looking for a detail-oriented Civil Design Engineer to join our team. You will be responsible for leading and managing projects from conception to completion. This role has a hybrid remote/office schedule based in our Perrysburg, OH or Dublin, OH office.
Key responsibilities include:
- Manage complex assignments independently, operating within defined guidelines and protocols, with minimal managerial supervision.
- Prepare site design to include pavement, drainage, grading, stormwater design, materials selection, site layout, and quality assurance.
- Conducts field exploration, analysis, and technical support as applicable under direct supervision.
- Develop designs, reports, and calculations on moderately complex projects.
- Independently analyzes information and outlines the scope of technical and non-technical work for both field and office operations.
- Execute technical calculations and understand review policies to effectively audit calculations completed by other team members.
- Perform and execute technical calculations
- Assists senior operations and technical staff by coordinating small projects.
- Apply creativity and appropriate independent thought to solve technical problems commensurate with the job level.
- Provides training and supervision for entry level technicians and staff professionals as needed.
- Conduct storm water analysis as required to meet local requirements.
- Support the submission of plans to secure necessary approvals and permits.
- Apply academic knowledge, job training and experience to distill, evaluate and solve technical problems of limited complexity and scope with clear direction and oversight.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in civil engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) registered in Ohio and Michigan or the ability to obtain reciprocity in both states within one (1) month of starting date.
- 5-10 years of experience in civil engineering, stormwater management systems, and erosion and sediment control design.
- Knowledge and experience using AutoCAD and Civil 3D expertise is preferred.
- Proficient in project planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Experience in conducting feasibility studies and ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Demonstrate expertise in site design including pavement, drainage, utilities and stormwater design, materials selection, and quality assurance.
- Effective communication with cross-functional teams, clients, and stakeholders.
- Proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.
- Advanced knowledge of industry standards, codes, and emerging technologies in civil engineering.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
- Minimum, experience in, or the ability to readily learn, the fundamentals of site design as it relates to commercial, logistics and industrial site civil design of utilities, drainage, pavement grading, etc.
- Effectively and convincingly communicates technical information in meetings/presentations to practitioners, clients, and laypersons. Demonstrates skills effectively and convincingly communicating technical information in internal meetings and presentations. Has some direct client interaction as appropriate.
- Understands multiple elements of moderately complex problems and can apply creative, appropriate, and innovative skills to identify the best application or combined applications of technology to moderately complex problems with limited assistance or oversight.
- The ability to:
- Use Word, Excel, Bluebeam, Outlook, and Teams to effectively communicate with internal and external clients.
- Adhere to organizational standards for quality and performance.
- Effectively read and interpret construction plans and specifications, and applicable design codes.
- Assist in reviewing/checking calculations prepared by others.
- Assist in the drafting of plans and details.
- Assist in preparing meeting minutes.
- Assist in reviewing and processing RFIs.
- Assist in reviewing and processing Submittals and Shop Drawings
- Work collaboratively with other design disciplines (Architecture, MEP) to coordinate the site with the overall design.
