The solar PV & Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) design team in Denver, Colorado is growing and searching for the right Power System Studies Senior Electrical Engineer. The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude, be collaborative, possess strong electrical engineering knowledge, and is enthusiastic about optimizing the performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of solar and storage power plants through rigorous modeling and process automation.

 

This leadership position requires deep, detailed engineering skills to build the systems that enable flawless execution. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop Engineering Automation Tools: Support the team to design and maintain a suite of calculation templates, design tools, and automated workflows to improve the quality, consistency, and efficiency of the detailed engineering process.
  • Lead Detailed Plant Modeling: Lead junior engineers to perform power system studies for PV + BESS facilities such as load flow, reactive power, cable ampacity, energy loss, and ground potential rise.
  • Optimize Design through Analysis: Use the results of your detailed power system models to guide and optimize the physical design, including equipment sizing, cable selection, and the layout of DC, AC, and MV collection systems to ensure code compliance and reliability.
  • Ensure Code and Standards Compliance: Collaborate with team leaders and junior engineers to ensure plant designs meet and exceed Code, industry, and client standards
  • Support Construction Document Development: Translate modeling outputs and design specifications into clear, actionable inputs for the design and drafting team to create comprehensive construction drawing sets.
  • Mentor professional staff.
  • Assist in the development of work practices and procedures.
  • Travel to field for project scoping, verification, construction support, and meeting with clients (10% or less).
  • Attend project meetings and client meetings.
  • Completion of other relevant duties as required.

 

EXPERIENCE & ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering discipline or equivalent.
  • Registered as an Electrical PE and able to obtain via reciprocity in other states.
  • A minimum of 12 years of electrical engineering experience with at least 6 years of experience in electrical engineering of renewable energy projects, including utility-scale solar PV & BESS projects.
  • Deep understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and its application to renewable energy projects.
  • Expert-level proficiency with power plant modeling software (ETAP or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated experience with specialized design tools (e.g., CYMCAP, WinIGS) and energy modeling software (e.g., PVsyst).
  • Proven experience in developing automated calculation tools and templates.
  • Familiarity with interpreting and guiding the creation of construction drawings in AutoCAD or a similar platform. Proficiency in MS Office Suite programs used to create reports and documents.

  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn, master, and integrate new specialized engineering software.
  • A strong aptitude for process integration and developing automated workflows between different tools.
  • Analytical thinker with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, with an ability to document new processes. Eagerness to provide technical mentorship.
  • Commitment to risk and change management processes.

 Benefits: Kleinfelder offers an excellent compensation and benefits package, including: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k) plan, and paid holidays. The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.  Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience. Salary range: $124,000-183,000. We will be accepting applications through 12/25/25 (90 days since posting date).
