Step into Your New Role

Kleinfelder is experiencing rapid infrastructure growth in several focused key markets, including Transportation, Water, Oil & Gas, and Power. To support this growth, we are seeking an experienced Engineering group Lead to expand and lead our Design Services Group within Kleinfelder’s Mountain Area.

The Design Services Group Lead will provide strategic and technical leadership for multidisciplinary design teams, including Structural, Electrical, and Civil professionals. This role is responsible for delivering value-driven designs that align clients’ needs with business goals while managing project budgets, schedules, quality, and safety from concept through completion.

This position offers a leadership opportunity with a strong focus on expanding design services, developing high-performing teams, and supporting Kleinfelder’s continued growth across key markets.

 Essential Functions

  • Lead day-to-day operations of the engineering design team, including Project Managers, Professional Engineers, Engineering Interns, Drafters/Designers, and support staff across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Provide engaged, visible leadership that supports the company vision and contributes positively to Kleinfelder’s ecosystem mindset at all levels of the organization.
  • Drive team growth and development, including annual workforce planning, recruiting and hiring, mentoring, succession planning, and developing effective recruiting strategies.
  • Review and analyze project-level financial statements, activity reports, and performance metrics for Project Manager portfolios to assess productivity, profitability, and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Prepare and manage resource schedules and develop reports for leadership related to progress toward group and area goals.
  • Lead and champion quality management, ensuring Kleinfelder’s quality procedures and standards are consistently implemented across projects.
  • Lead or support contract negotiations, risk management, and formal risk review processes.
  • Manage complex, multi-discipline projects while delivering creative solutions that meet client needs and comply with contract requirements, company health and safety programs, and industry best practices.
  • Serve as Project Manager and Primary Client Contact for large ($1M+), complex, multi-disciplinary projects, including EPC, Design-Bid-Build (DBB), and Design-Build (DB) delivery methods.
  • Support business development growth through strategic pursuits utilizing your established local and regional network
  • Participate in capture planning, proposal development, and interviews for strategic and large-scale projects.
  • Actively engage in and represent Kleinfelder within professional organizations and industry groups.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required; Master’s degree or MBA preferred
  • Professional Registration Required
  • Minimum 12+ years of professional experience, including 5–7 years in a managerial or leadership role
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, foster a positive and collaborative culture, provide clear direction, and make informed decisions
  • Strong knowledge of project controls, including estimating, scheduling, risk management, and cost control
  • Proven experience providing project management and technical leadership across multiple concurrent projects
  • Experience in strategic planning and execution to support the growth of engineering practices
  • Demonstrated success in business development, including preparing qualifications, cost proposals, and contract negotiations
  • Recognized Subject Matter Expert with the ability to provide technical review and oversight of work performed by engineering staff

Benefits: Kleinfelder, and its’ subsidiaries and affiliates, offers an excellent compensation and benefits package, including: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k) plan, and paid holidays.  Colorado: The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.  Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience. Salary range: $124,755 - $182,874.  We will be accepting applications through 4/06/26 (90 days from posting date).
